"Cultural Competency:
Library Practices In Eracing Stereotypes And Myths In Our Imagination"

DESCRIPTION

The recent increase in hate crimes against Arab-Americans, Sikh-Americans and others labeled as "foreign" since September 11 have again demonstrated that racism remains one of the major socio-cultural problems facing the United States. Cultural diversity remains an important contribution to librarianship and determines how we deliver our services. The speakers will examine the various components of Cultural Competency, defined as the acquisition of cultural knowledge and skills necessary to understand different perspectives and effectively work to engage each other for a better society.
