APALA Conference Program 2007

Asian American Materials: Preserving Our Histories and
Moving Into the Future

Time: 10:30am-12:00pm, Sunday, June 24, 2007
Location: Washington Convention Center Room 143A

The program will focus on the implications of preserving cultural and creative works at cultural institutions like libraries, museums, and archives. In preserving our past, what roles do museums and archives have for Asian Pacific American communities? What are the social, economic, and political issues that archivists, librarians, and curators face as they try to collect, build, and maintain collections? A panel of librarians, archivists, and scholars will share their experiences and provide insight into the everyday practices of cultural preservation that try to balance access with preservation and archival tradition with modern practices that include digital technology.
