Cynthia M. Orozco Writes About the ALA Annual Conference

Cynthia M. Orozco was the 2011 APALA Travel Award recipient.  Here’s what she had to say about her ALA Annual Conference experience:

As a library school student, I greatly appreciate any opportunity I have to engage in professional development, make new connections, share ideas with fellow library professionals. Therefore, I greatly appreciate the  generosity of APALA in awarding me the 2011 APALA Travel Award! The award helped me immensely in paying for the flight from Orange County to New Orleans and covering hotel expenses. The experience I gained from attending my first ALA Annual Conference was truly invaluable.

By receiving the Travel Award, I was able to attend a variety of sessions, workshops, and social events. Also, as a newly appointed ALA committee intern for the Intellectual Freedom Committee, I attended mandatory committee meetings and had the opportunity to participate in committee discussion and decision-making firsthand. Some of the excellent programs that I attended included the JCLC Fundraising Reception, the Emerging Leaders Poster Session, and, of course, the APALA President’s Program! It was absolutely wonderful to meet fellow APALA members throughout the conference, and I’m looking forward to becoming increasingly involved with APALA and working alongside all of you!

Thank you again for this opportunity. I left New Orleans inspired with memories to last a lifetime!
