and the Marin County Free
Library are announcing a recruitment for a Senior Librarian (Branch
Manager) to direct the day-to-day activities
of the Librarys five community branches in West Marin: Point
Reyes Station, Inverness, Bolinas, Stinson
Beach, and San Geronimo Valley. The eligible list established from
this recruitment will be used to fill the
current vacancy and any future vacancies that occur while the list
is active. Eligible lists remain active for a
minimum of six (6) months.
TENTATIVE EXAM SCHEDULE: Depending on the number of qualified applications
received, the
examination process may consist of a supplemental application screening,
written examination, oral
examination, performance examination, or any combination to determine
which candidates names will be
placed on the eligible list.
ORAL EXAMINATION: MONDAY, JUNE 9 AND/OR TUESDAY, JUNE 10, 2007
(Tentative Hiring Interview Date by Library Department: Wednesday,
June 11, 2008)
DUTIES: Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
Plans, schedules, supervises directly and indirectly through
subordinate supervision, coordinates, reviews
and evaluates the work of assigned professional and support staff.
Coordinates the development of branch collections; plans
and conducts programs and exhibits for the local community.
Participates as a member of the administrative team in planning;
makes budget recommendations to
administrative staff; monitors the budget for the assigned function.
Represents the library before local community groups and
communicates library policy and budget
priorities to the public; seeks input from local groups and individuals
regarding library policy and collections; maintains communication
with the local press.
Recommends technology improvements for the library system;
provides for the training of staff in the use of such technology.
Communicates library policy and procedure to staff.
Assists patrons in the use of library print and non-print
services; provides reference services to patrons.
Oversees the condition and security of branch facilities
and equipment.
Prepares reports, correspondence, procedures and other written
materials.
Maintains accurate records and files.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS: Equivalent to an American Library Association
approved Masters degree in Library Science, Library and Information
Services, or similar curriculum, and three years of experience as
a professional librarian. Overall work experience must include two
years of supervisory experience, which may be obtained in a position
other than a professional librarian. Experience in a public library
setting and using current library technology are desirable.
NOTE: Must be willing to work evenings and weekends .
