DUTIES

The Ocean County Library is seeking a dynamic and innovative Principal Librarian to lead the Youth Services team at our Lakewood Branch. The successful candidate will serve an extremely active and diverse community in an urban setting. The Youth Services Department Head supervises a staff of seven, including four full-time librarians. This position will also serve as a member of the Branch Management Team; designing branch services, developing branch objectives and activities and recommending branch procedures. The ideal candidate will demonstrate enthusiasm, excellent organization and communication skills, the ability to lead a team and work as part of a team, a collaborative and inspiring disposition, strong desire to work with and within a diverse community and demonstrated excellence in cross cultural competencies. Evenings and weekends are required with this 35-hour per week position.

REQUIREMENTS

A Master's degree in Library or Information Science in a library program from a library school accredited by the State Board of Education.

Two years of professional librarian experience.

Appointees may be required to possess a valid Professional Librarian Certificate issued by the Bureau of Teacher Certification, Thomas Edison State College. Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
