LIBRARY MISSION STATEMENT:
The University of Arizona Libraries and Center for Creative Photography advance the University's mission through the active contributions of knowledgeable staff who choose cost effective methods of acquiring, curating, managing, and connecting customers to information services and resources and providing education in their use.

All Library staff members are charged with advancing the vision and mission of the Libraries through system-wide thinking and shared responsibility for successful teams. Individuals are responsible and accountable for problem solving, processes improvement, maintaining quality standards and are empowered to make decisions at appropriate levels. POSITION SUMMARY:
The Assistant Dean for Technology Strategy will serve as the Chief Technology Strategist for the Libraries and CCP in development of a shared information technology strategy that supports the mission of the University and is responsive to the changing information needs of its constituents. The Strategist will collaborate with Library functional and cross-functional teams and team leaders, the University Information Technology Services and other partners within and beyond the University.
The incumbent will research and assess information about information technology trends and innovations that will impact the directions of the digital library and enhance the customers experience with information resources and share the information and recommendations with the Libraries. The Assistant Dean will work closely with the Digital Library and Information Systems Team on implementation of new technology projects and innovations. The Strategist will contribute to and be active in local, consortial, regional and national meetings to stay abreast of technology and program developments and trends and represent the positions and interests of the University and the Libraries. The Assistant Dean for Technology Strategy reports directly to the Dean of Libraries and CCP.

DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES and EXPECTATIONS:
1. Participates in the development of a shared vision and strategy
for the Libraries that supports the mission of the University and is responsive to the changing information needs of customers.
2. Collaborates with the Strategic Long Range Planning Team to
create and articulate an evolving technology strategy to support the Libraries' vision.
3. Creates and articulates an evolving technology strategy to
support the Libraries' and University's technology vision, with ongoing input and feedback from key stakeholders.
4. Assesses information technology developments, trends and
innovations that will impact the Library and its goals, and shares the information with the staff and administrators.
5. Actively coordinates and leads efforts to integrate Library and
University technology strategies into programs to enhance the Libraries'
support to our customers.
6. Researches, recommends and coordinates on implementations of new
technologies to enhance and transform the user experience with information resources.
7. Develops a strong relationship and collaborates with team
leaders to support customers' needs and digital library development given the increasing overlap of workload and responsibilities among teams.
8. In alignment with the Libraries' strategic plan, directs
collaborative research and development efforts with University Information Technology Services (UITS) and other appropriate partners with and beyond the University.
9. Ensures good project management processes are used in providing
services to the Libraries and customers.
10. Understands, advocates, communicates and exhibits commitment to
the Libraries' mission, vision, values and goals, and effectively conveys the broader context in which the Libraries operate.
11. Anticipates, initiates and responds to changes in the
environment, and keeps abreast of trends that impact higher education and the library profession that ensure the Libraries and the University achieve their goals.
12. Cultivates external relationships with deans, associate deans,
faculty and donors to assess needs, leverage opportunities, and build future collaborations. Educates and promotes the Libraries as a campus-wide resource.
13. Expands the Libraries' contributions to e-research and provides
leadership in the development of a University cyber-infrastructure.
14. Represents the Libraries in collaborative technology initiatives
across the University and in national and international efforts.
15. Enhances the Libraries' reputation as a leading research library
for the future.
16. Identifies needs and explores options for grant funding from
federal and private funding sources.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
* Master's degree in library/information science from an
ALA-accredited institution.
* Must have record of achievement which would allow continuing
status.
* Five years of progressively responsible experience in
information technology in a major academic and research University Library.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* Demonstrated knowledge of emerging trends in digital library
services, ability to assess the market place, and translate knowledge into vision and strategy. Possesses a commitment to proactively continue tracking trends and innovations and incorporating findings into the Libraries' information technology strategy.
* Experience with developing digital library technologies and
institutional repositories and integrating library systems.
* Demonstrated command of trends in digital libraries, information
policy, collaborative technologies and the storage, management, preservation and delivery of information.
* Effective skills in facilitation, consensus building, creative
problem solving and a team-based approach to achieving success.
* Demonstrated success in the leading and managing of a
significant program or project.
* Possesses a thorough understanding of trends away from print
toward digital content/resources and tools as a preference and reality for the future in this library and nationally. Ability to communicate the changes, requirements and benefits to faculty, students and researchers across campus.
* Ability to lead in a team-based environment and work with
diverse people and serve a diverse population.
* Must be a systems thinker with a collaborative style and
entrepreneurial spirit in developing strategies for the future of the digital library.
* Extensive skills in strategic planning and translating the
resulting strategies into programs or projects that can be implemented to further all library goals. Willingness to use a library and University-wide view, rather than a parochial view, in developing strategies to achieve goals.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact
effectively with customers, colleagues, campus administrators and local, regional, consortial and national partners and organizations.
* Commitment to the Libraries' vision, mission, values and goals
and the ability to communicate them clearly and persuasively in a variety of contexts to the library and campus.
* Ability to liaise with various campus, state and community
organizations to develop and implement workable programs, enhances service to customers, and communicates the Library strategic goals and directions.
* Demonstrated ability to develop collaborations to enhance and
fulfill the mission of the Libraries, the University and external organizations.
* Demonstrated commitment to risk taking and continuous
improvement.
