The Huntington Library invites applications for a temporary professional position in the Manuscripts Department processing and creating records for a manuscript collection related to the history of Chinese Americans in twentieth-century Southern California. This grant-sponsored position is funded through 30 June 2009; begins immediately.

Essential Functions: Processes and creates other access tools (including finding aids and MARC records) for a manuscript collection related to the Chinese American experience in Southern California. Works under the general supervision of one of the Library’s Curators of Western American Historical Manuscripts.

Qualifications: M.L.S. degree or M.A. in American History, or equivalent training and experience. Must have familiarity with descriptive archival standards and procedures. Basic computer literacy required, including familiarity with MS Office applications. Preferred: Formal training or experience in a manuscripts or archival repository or special collections library. Experience with FileMaker Pro database software and the suite of Microsoft Office applications. Specific academic subject knowledge in the history of California is strongly desired, such as would be achieved with the completion of a B.A. in American history or American studies. A background in ethnic studies, especially of the Chinese American experience, desirable, as is some reading knowledge of Chinese.
