Job Title: Assistant Library Coordinator at the UCLA ASIAN AMERICAN
STUDIES CENTER LIBRARY
Salary: $40,000-$53,000
Starting Date: Monday, March 16, 2009
Job Description:
Under direction and supervision of Center's Library Coordinator and
Archivist, the Assistant Library Coordinator will assist with overall
supervision and management of a special library supporting research
in Asian American Studies through collection development; processing
and cataloging; library service; information management systems and
bibliographic projects; and recruitment, hiring, training, and supervision
of student assistants.
Major duties:
A variety of specialized and technical duties and paraprofessional
knowledge of library principles and procedures are necessary to be
applied in the following functions and duties:
* Collection development and management of serials, pamphlets, theses
lists, media, and related preservation projects
* Cataloging and processing of serials, pamphleted, and monographic
items
* Ongoing retrospective catalog conversion work conducted in collaboration
with UCLA Library
* Serials, Media, and Pamphlet database updates and reconciliation
* Serials Indexing
* General public service reference assistance.
Qualifications:
Familiarity with Library Catalog and online databases, search process
of print and electronic data, Filemaker Pro information management
software. Ability to apply Library of Congress and customized classification
systems for cataloging. Understanding of user information needs and
queries. Ability to type accurately and quickly. Ability to follow
university guidelines and fill out forms. Demonstrated experience
with database management protocol. Demonstrated experience with information
management system protocol. Familiarity with Pro-Cite bibliographic
management software. Excel spreadsheet software, network protocol,
repair/back-up/security utilities. Ability to train and supervise
student assistants. Ability to assign appropriate information software.
Demonstrated knowledge of Macintosh Operating System. Knowledge of
Asian American Studies literature and research. Knowledge of Asian
American & Pacific Islander community. Familiarity with Asian
and Pacific Islander American issues. Ability to edit for content,
spelling, grammar, and accuracy. Ability to write clear, concise,
and accurate correspondence.
