The Andover-Harvard Theological Library seeks a head of cataloging
to serve as a primary resource for complex cataloging in multiple
formats and languages, and to provide leadership for emerging trends
in metadata, bibliographic control, and related technology. Please

The head of cataloging provides oversight and analysis of cataloging
workflow; identifies special project needs; plans, supervises and
evaluates projects; and performs complex cataloging and database maintenance.
Participates in the planning, management, and leadership of the library
as a whole, integrating the work of the cataloging department into
the library's mission and goals. Reporting to the librarian, the incumbent
is expected to have excellent interpersonal skills and will work with
and manage a talented, diverse, and professional staff.
Minimum Qualifications
MLIS from an ALA accredited school or equivalent and two or more years
of professional cataloging experience in an academic library are required.
At least one year of supervisory experience, including demonstrated
ability to effectively supervise, train, and motivate staff, is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Current knowledge of cataloging standards for bibliographic records
and authority control; strong awareness of current trends in cataloging
at academic libraries, and; evidence of strong analytical and problem-solving
skills. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate superb
communication and interpersonal skills, collegiality, and initiative,
will have the ability to manage a variety of tasks and multiple priorities,
and will have experience developing and implementing effective work
routines and procedures. Demonstrated participation in professional
activities; familiarity with the Ex Libris Aleph integrated library
system; experience working with rare books and/or electronic resources
are all preferred. Advanced knowledge of at least one foreign language,
German is preferred. A second graduate degree in a related field is
preferred.
