The University Library at the University of North Carolina at Chapel
Hill seeks a dynamic, innovative, and team-oriented librarian to serve
as manager of the E-Resources Acquisitions Section in the E-Resources
& Serials Management Department.
Staff in E-Resources & Serials Management work together as a
collaborative, service-oriented team that strives to ensure students,
faculty, and staff have easy access to the broad range of research
publications provided through the University Library. Under the general
direction of the Department Head, the E-Resources Acquisitions Librarian
plays a leadership role within the E-Resources Acquisitions Section
whose activities span the acquisition, licensing, access management,
renewals, record maintenance, and troubleshooting of electronic resources.
The individual in this position works closely with colleagues throughout
the Library who share the goal of supporting the teaching and research
mission of the University.
The E-Resources Acquisitions Librarian provides leadership in the
acquisition, maintenance, and support of the electronic resources
offered by the University Library, and participates in management
and policy development for e-resources and serials in support of University
Library priorities. The Librarian is responsible for: reviewing workflows
for efficiency and effectiveness; documenting procedures; and contributing
to a wide variety of initiatives pertaining to e-access and serials.
The E-Resources Acquisitions Librarian supervises 2.5 FTE whose primary
assignments involve the acquisition, implementation, maintenance,
and front-line service of electronic resource collections. The Librarian:
leads contract and license negotiations with information providers
in coordination with team members in the Library; develops and implements
plans for the efficient and effective processing of electronic resources
data, including the recording and maintenance of licensing details
for the collections; and participates in and plans training and continuing
education programs for selectors regarding e-resources workflows,
general licensing needs, and usage statistics. Additionally, the E-Resources
Acquisitions Librarian represents the Library with relevant consortial,
state, and national organizations.
Qualifications
Required:
ALA accredited MLS. Academic library experience. Demonstrated experience
with issues and practices involved in the acquisition and maintenance
of e-resources collections, including licensing and a knowledge of
publishing practices and trends. General knowledge of a range of software
applications supporting access to online collections and associated
technologies. Aptitude for detail oriented work, including strong
analytical and problem solving skills. Excellent communication skills
and the ability to work well within a team environment with diverse
groups of library staff. Proficiency with spreadsheet programs and
familiarity with relational database programs. Strong commitment to
public service.
Preferred:
Three or more years of related experience in a large academic library.
Experience using library management and electronic resources systems
such as Innovative Interfaces? Millennium and ERM software, Serials
Solutions 360 products. Supervisory experience, particularly in electronic
resources or other technical services operations. Understanding of
business and licensing models, their budget implications, and the
ability to clearly communicate that understanding. Involvement in
professional development activities, including research and participation
in professional organizations. Knowledge of standards initiatives
such as COUNTER, SUSHI, SERU, and ONIX-PL.

This is a twelve-month academic librarian appointment; salary is commensurate
with qualifications and experience. Standard state benefits of annual
