INSTRUCTION COORDINATOR


The University of California, Santa Barbara, one of the ten campuses of the UC, is looking for a librarian to become *Instruction Coordinator*.
The successful candidate must be innovative, creative, energetic, self motivated and service oriented.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Associate University Librarian, User and Instructional Services, the *primary responsibility of this position is to plan, coordinate, evaluate and promote the Library instructional program. The person in this position will collaborate with the librarians in coordinating instruction for the credit-bearing library research classes, course-specific instruction sessions, and orientations. *

Works with the Library instruction team to systematically assess needs, design instructional offerings that support learning and research, integrate information literacy into the curriculum and assess learning outcomes.

*Collaborates with the instruction librarians to pursue and expand partnerships with departments on campus to ensure that library resources and information literacy instruction become an integral part of teaching and research activities on campus. *

Works in a team environment to develop instructional and promotional resources, including web pages and tutorials. Plans and implements the incorporation of Web 2.0 technologies into instructional materials and evaluates their effectiveness. Assists the librarians in incorporating online learning materials into the university’s course management system.

Works individually and as part of a group to provide reference and instructional services to students, faculty, staff, and the university community for all disciplines, including scheduled reference desk service, virtual reference service, research consultation and a host of instructional programs. Includes some evening and weekend hours.

Responsible for all aspects of collection management and development for Communication, including selection of information resources, storage and weeding decisions, faculty liaison, instruction, collection interpretation, evaluation, budgetary management and resource sharing.
Participates in the Social Sciences Collection Group.

QUALIFICATIONS: Required - ALA accredited MLS. Experience coordinating an instruction program in an academic library. Demonstrated success with teaching library research. Knowledge of instructional design principles and information literacy concepts in an academic library setting.
Experience designing and maintaining print and electronic teaching tools. Demonstrated reference experience in general and/or specialized reference services. Strong commitment to excellence in public service and the ability to work with faculty, students and staff in a dynamic and challenging environment. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. Strong organizational and project management skills.

Preferred – Academic background and/or knowledge of Social Sciences sources. Collection development experience in an academic library.
Working knowledge of relevant Web 2.0 technologies and social networking tools. Evidence of innovative online instructional development.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary commensurate with qualifications, minimum $48,029. Librarians at the University of California, Santa Barbara are professional academic appointees who accrue vacation at the rate of two days per month and sick leave at the rate of one day per month. The University has an excellent retirement system which is coordinated with Social Security. A selection of group health, dental, vision, and life insurance plans are offered by the University.
