The University of West Georgia's Ingram Library seeks a creative, dynamic leader with substantial experience in designing and directing instructional activities in both face-to-face and online environments. The successful candidate will be a team leader in the development of a vision, goals, and strategies for reference and instruction library services, and will provide leadership for re-visioning space and services as the library embarks on a funded renovation project and anticipated expansion. Assumes a major role in the development of library-wide policies and procedures. Twelve-month, tenure track position with target appointment at Assistant/Associate Professor Librarian rank. Responsibilities: The Head of Instructional Services has administrative responsibility (planning, budgeting, and assessment) for Library Instruction, Reference, and Government Documents. In addition, the Head of Instructional Services is responsible for initiating policies and procedures, proposing and assessing instructional programs and initiatives, and coordinating the library's liaison program. Leads a divisional staff of 6 FTE librarians and 1 support staff member. Teaching duties include a 2 credit-hour course on library research skills and other workshops offered by the library. Other duties include acting as liaison to assigned academic departments and providing general reference service within the day, evening, and weekend rotation schedule of the library. Reports to Associate Director of University Libraries. Qualifications: Required: ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS. Second graduate degree required for tenure or for appointment/promotion above Instructor rank. Able to fulfill standard promotion/tenure requirements. Demonstrated ability to envision, plan and implement new services and technology. Excellent oral and written communication skills, a collegial management style, and a commitment to the service and instructional mission of the academic library. Prior teaching experience. Experience in development of web-based instructional materials. Demonstrated ability to encourage creativity in and to work collaboratively with others. Must be eligible to work permanently in the U.S and pass criminal background check. Desired: Three years progressive managerial experience in an academic or research library.
