Miami University seeks an energetic and proactive librarian who enjoys a challenging, innovative and change-oriented environment. Reporting to the Head of Technical Services, the Electronic Resources/Serials Librarian will have primary responsibility for management of Libraries electronic resources and print continuations, will oversee all activities performed in the Serials Unit, and will work closely with colleagues in Technical Services to maintain the departments cost-effectiveness and quality of work while employing innovative technologies and practices. Duties · Works closely with Acquisitions Librarian to ensure correct ordering of and payment for electronic and print continuations · Performs and/or supervises cataloging and works proactively to maintains access to electronic and print continuations, serials, and standing orders · Maintains electronic records in the Serials Solutions portal, the OhioLINK link resolver (OLINKS) and Miamis III Millennium ILS · Assists in serials cancellation and weeding projects · In cooperation with the Head of Technical Services, establishes policies and local procedures to ensure local practices meet national standards, including CONSER standards; keeps Head apprised of new developments in electronic resources and serials librarianship · Resolves problems relating to electronic resource access and assists other librarians and staff with serials problem solving · Coordinates and arranges e-resource trials, obtains and maintains licenses and electronic resource agreements, and assists with licensing as requested · Responsible for additional monographic cataloging area, to be determined depending on background and library needs · Trains, supervises and evaluates support staff working with electronic resources and serials · Stays current with emerging library technologies for delivering library resources and services
Requirements
· Masters degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited institution · Ability and initiative to meet the continuing contract and promotion requirements of the Libraries Appointment, Rank and Promotion System (LARPS) <http://www.lib.muohio.edu/about/larps.pdf > · Knowledge of AACR2r, LCRI, LCCS, LCSH, and MARC21 formats for bibliographic, holdings, and authority data · Knowledge and/or experience with common bibliographic and metadata tools, such as OCLC Connexion and integrated library systems · Knowledge of electronic resource management tools · Knowledge of licensing terms/issues · Familiarity with linking technology and authentication protocols · Knowledge of and interest in current issues, trends, and emerging standards in electronic resources cataloging · Knowledge of trends in information technology · Strong oral and written communication skills
Preferred
· Experience in electronic resources and/or serials management · Experience in an academic library · Experience using the Innovative Interfaces Millennium integrated library system · Experience cataloging continuing resources in a variety of formats · Reading knowledge of at least one foreign language · Experience in a consortial environment such as OhioLINK · Knowledge of and interest in current issues, trends, and emerging standards in cataloging, , such as FRBR and RDA · Understanding of practices and trends in scholarly publishing and communication, technology, Library and Web 2.0 developments · Knowledge of web programming (HTML a plus) and/or programming language (PHP/MySQL for example) · A positive outlook and a sense of humor Submit letter of application, resume and name, telephone
