SALARY*
$4,073 - $5,087 per month. *In addition to the monthly salary, the
City contributes 7% of the employees share of monthly salary
to the Public Employees Retirement System and offers a monthly
benefit allowance of $845. CalPERS retirement formula 2.5% @ 55.

APPLICATION INFORMATION
In addition to the Citys application, candidates must submit
the Supplemental Application. Failure to submit with the application
will result in disqualification from the recruitment process.
THE POSITION
Librarian I: This is the entry level in the Librarian class series.
Under immediate supervision, perform professional library work in
one or more assigned areas of the Library; perform extensive customer
service duties; provide general and specialized reference, readers
advisory, referral, and information services to patrons in person,
by mail, e-mail, and over the telephone; aid patrons in the selection
of materials, collections and resources; perform manual and electronic
searches of sources; participate in supervising assigned volunteers;
plan, schedule, and publicize library programs, exhibits, and events
for children, youth and adults; conduct community outreach including
presentations at local schools; operate a variety of office machines;
attend and participate in workshops, seminars, conferences, and training
programs; maintain Federal Depository Collection according to Federal
standards; maintain Arcadia History Collection and library archives;
catalog all library materials; assist in the development, implementation,
and evaluation of programs and services in the assigned areas of reference,
childrens services, or technical services; select and evaluate
materials including books, magazines, audio, video, electronic database
and CD-Rom products; continually weed collection; and perform other
related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
The Librarian I position is a part of the Librarian I/II flexible
staffing position. Employees at the ibrarian I level may have an opportunity
to promote to the Librarian II level.
Current opening is in the Childrens section. The eligibility
list created from this recruitment may be used to fill full-time and
part-time vacancies in Adult, Technical or Childrens Services
in the next 12 months. Appointments of current and future positions
are contingent on available funds.
WORK SCHEDULE
The current work schedule of the Library is Monday through Saturday.
This position will include evening and Saturday work.
REQUIREMENTS
Experience: Some experience working in a library is desirable. Education:
Equivalent to a Masters degree in Library Science from an ALA
accredited college or university.
Special Conditions: Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop,
squat, crawl, twist, and lift, carry, push, and pull 20 30
lbs.
THE SELECTION PROCESS
Applications will be reviewed and those candidates whose applications
indicate they have met the minimum requirements will be further considered
to continue in the recruitment process. The selection process may
consist of: Application Evaluation (Qualifying), Supplemental Application
(Qualifying) and Oral Examination (100%). Candidates will be selected
for the oral interview based on qualifying review of application materials.
The City reserves the right to limit the number of interviews conducted.
The interview score determines ranking on the eligibility list. Pre-employment
background and medical examinations are additional requirements for
hire. Failure in either of these areas will result in removal from
