The successful candidate will have in-depth knowledge of child development and literature. A passion for developing and implementing children’s programs and services is a must. The Children’s Department Head is responsible for the organization, management, supervision and effective functioning of the Main Library’s Children’s Department. Responsibilities include training, motivating and evaluating Children’s Department staff (5 FTEs), developing and presenting programs to children ages birth to 11 and engaging in collaborative outreach programs to promote the library within the community. In addition, this position serves as a key member of the Children’s Steering Committee and is a part of the team that will plan the future of Children’s Services for the library system. Chattahoochee Valley Libraries is a thriving four county library system headquartered in Columbus, GA approximately two hours outside Atlanta. The system serves a 200,000+ population circulating 1.3 million items last year. The Aflac Children’s Room and new outdoor Children’s Reading Garden provide a beautiful environment for children’s programs and services. The library, in addition to a 125 seat auditorium, has several large meeting rooms. Programs are limited only by your imagination! Minimum requirement is an MLS from an ALA-accredited program. Five years of children’s librarian experience with at least two years of management and supervisory experience preferred. Starting salary range: $45,625-$53,738 with excellent benefits.
