For over two decades, APALA has presented the Asian Pacific American Award for Literature. This nationally recognized award honors individual works about Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, Pacific Islanders and their experiences and cultures, based on literary and artistic merit.
The APALA Literature Awards Banquet is an annual event that is an opportunity for library professionals, advocates and supporters to gather to recognize the 2024 Asian Pacific American Awards for Literature winners and honorees. Attendees can expect to enjoy a night of great food and great company while commemorating a roster of fantastic authors.
This year’s banquet will be held at the San Diego Central Library’s special events venue. The Shiley Events Suite, located on the 9th floor of Central Library, offers skyline views of downtown San Diego.

Time: Check in will begin at 6:00 PM. The event will conclude at 9:00 PM
Location: Shiley Events Suite on 9th Floor of San Diego Central Library. 330 Park Blvd., San Diego, CA 92101 (Downtown East Village, Park Boulevard at 11th Avenue, near Petco Park)
Menu: Buffet-style dinner from Supannee Thai Instagram: @sandiegothaicatering. Gluten-free and vegan options available.
Transportation Information: San Diego Central Library is 8 blocks away from the San Diego Convention Center. Underground parking is available at the San Diego Central Library at the corner of K Street and 11th Avenue. The first two hours are free with validation available in the first-floor lobby. Parking will be $1.25 for each 20 minutes or part of 20 minutes after 2 hours.

Student and Library Support Staff Tickets: MLIS students and library support staff have the chance to claim a free sponsored ticket to the Literature Awards Banquet. Tickets are limited and are first come, first serve. Check back often as we are able to add more sponsored tickets.

Sponsorship Opportunities: Organizational and individual sponsorship opportunities are available. Organization sponsorships directly support APALA’s work in lifting up and giving back to our community. Individuals sponsorship opportunities are available to sponsor a student and/or library support staff by purchasing a ticket for them.
