Effective Mentoring: Preliminary Lessons Learned

Speakers:

Regina Gong is the OER Project Manager at Lansing Community College (LCC) in Michigan. She has been leading and managing LCC’s OER initiative since 2015. Regina is well-known in the open education community and has done numerous national presentations and webinars on OER. She is a staunch advocate of openness, equity, and access through her involvement as Executive Council member of the Community College Consortium for Open Educational Resources (CCCOER) where she serves as VP for professional development. She is also in the MI Statewide OER Steering Committee; Program Committee member for the 2018 Open Education Conference, and an OER Research Group Fellow for 2017-2018. Regina obtained her Masters in Library and Information Science (MLIS) at Wayne State University and will be starting her Ph.D. in the Higher, Adult, and Lifelong Education (HALE) Program at Michigan State University (MSU) in Fall 2018.

Dale McNeill is the Assistant Director for Public Services at the San Antonio Public Library, a position he has held since 2012. He provides management oversight for the public portions of the San Antonio Public Library; he is one of the executives in the City of San Antonio in that role. Before working at San Antonio Public Library, Mr. McNeill provided direction for public service as the Director of Public Library Services at the Queens Library in New York City, including 61 branches and the Central Library, including the Archives. He served there for 7 years. For the 10 years before that, he worked for the Dallas Public Library, including 6 years as Public Services Administrator, providing direction for the departments of the Central Library, including local history. He earned the Master’s degree in Library Science from LSU and the BA in education from Phillips University, Enid, OK. Mr. McNeill currently serves on the executive board of the Texas Library Association.  His term on ALA Council ends after the 2018 Annual Conference. He is a member of ALA’S Committee on Accreditation and of APALA. He’s been attending National and State Library Conferences since 1986.
