From digitization efforts of Asian American collections to public library outreach to Vietnamese-American communities, Asian American Librarians and Library Services: Activism, Collaboration and Strategies was recently published by Rowman & Littlefield, 2017. This collection, edited by APALA members Janet H. Clarke, Raymond Pun and Monnee Tong, features an array of personal essays and case studies from, and interviews with librarians who are of APA heritage and who support the APA community. Many contributors are also APALA and CALA members and active in the profession. Kudos to all!


Florante P. Ibanez, 66, has been reappointed to the California Library Services Board, where he has served since 2014. Ibanez is a member of the Filipino American Library Board of Directors, California Library Association, American Library Association, City of Carson Historical Committee, Los Angeles Community College District Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on Asian Pacific Islander Affairs and the Asian/Pacific American Librarians Association, where he was president from 2010 to 2011. He earned a Master of Arts degree in Asian American studies and a Master of Library Science degree in information and library science from the University of California, Los Angeles.


The APALA Executive Board has appointed Paolo Gujilde to fulfill the remaining term of Brian Leaf’s Vice President/President Election position effective immediately and will become APALA President at the close of the ALA Annual Meeting in June. Paolo Gujilde is the Associate Professor/Collections & Scholarly Communications Librarian at the National Louis University, in Chicago, IL. He has been an active member of APALA for many years and has served as Executive Board Member-at-Large, Chair of the Program Planning Committee, Chair of the Mentoring Committee, Chair of the Task Force on Archives and Handbook, and Chair of the Local Arrangements Task Force. Please thank Brian for his service and welcome Paolo as our Vice President/President Elect.
