Book Reviews

APALA seeks to review books that are by Asian American and Pacific Islander authors, and which tell diasporic Asian American and Pacific Islander stories. We consider requests for book reviews from APALA members and publishers.

  • We are willing to publish up to three reviews for adult books, and up to three reviews for children’s and young adult books per publisher, in each APALA programming year (August through June), but no more than five total books per publisher in any given programming year.
  • We are willing to publish up to two reviews for books by the same author in any given programming year.
  • We especially welcome content that breaks new grounds and pushes boundaries of Asian American literature
  • We especially welcome content that is by and about people who are marginalized within Asian American discourse, including South and Southeast Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders, queer Asian Americans, Asian Americans with disabilities, etc.

You can help support APALA by purchasing books through the APALA book reviews collection on Bookshop.org. We receive 10% of all sales made through the shop and have compiled lists of past literature award recipients and books reviewed in the APALA newsletter.

If you have further questions, or would like to suggest a book for review, please contact communications@apalaweb.org.
