Dawn Wing is Assistant Professor of Library Services at Suffolk County Community College (Media Librarian) in Long Island, NY. She was born and raised in Flushing, NY. Dawn began illustrating the “autobiofictional” comics series “What You Left Behind” in 2012 while earning her MLIS and studying with cartoonist Lynda Barry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (Go Badgers!).
“Counseling” is the first story from the 5th/ “the Library” issue of the series. The issue includes stories of libraries and librarians and their impact on the protagonist, Janie Chan. These stories were based on much truth in the author’s own childhood experiences in libraries and how they were safe spaces for imagination and healing.
