Lisa Zhu, APALA 2019 Travel Grant Recipient

APALA Travel Grant

Lisa Zhu will be graduating from University of British Columbia (UBC)’s MLIS program this May. She has a background in Nutritional Sciences and with years of food manufacturing industry experience before pursuing a career in librarianship. During her time attaining her MLIS degree, she was a digitization assistant and a student reference librarian at UBC Libraries. Upon graduation, she will begin a career in public librarianship. This year will be Lisa’s first time attending the ALA Annual Conference. When not working, you can find Lisa gardening at her community garden plot or researching for a new travel destination.

APALA Scholarship
Bean Yogi is an Indigenous (Uchinanchu) public library worker, and an incoming SJSU MLIS student for fall 2019. Based on Duwamish land, their work in libraries centers the lives of intersectional communities, through a transformative justice lens. For resilience, Bean practices somatic healing and organizes quiet outdoor reading parties. For paid labor, Bean is a Library Associate II for the Seattle Public Library and an Adult Nonfiction & Children’s Picture Book reviewer for Kirkus.
